How to Make Cake in Palworld (Breeding)

How to make cake for breeding in Palworld 1.0: exact recipe (flour, berries, milk, egg, honey), Cooking Pot steps, the Ranch farm for every ingredient, and which 1.0 cake to use.

Open CalculatorBrowse Pals

No cake, no egg — every breeding cycle at the farm consumes one cake. This guide gives you the exact recipe, the cheapest way to mass-produce ingredients, and which of the five 1.0 cake types to use for your goal. For parent selection, use the calculator or the Special Combos list.

The Cake Recipe (Exact Quantities)

Cook one cake in a Cooking Pot (or any higher-tier stove) from — per the Palworld Wiki Cake recipe reference:

  • 5 Flour — mill Wheat from a Wheat Plantation (needs Mill + Planting/Watering Pals)
  • 8 Red Berries — Berry Plantation, the earliest farm you will build
  • 7 Milk — assign a Mozzarina to a Ranch
  • 8 Egg — assign a Chikipi to a Ranch
  • 2 Honey — assign a Beegarde to a Ranch

The recipe costs 2,000 cooking workload, so assign a Pal with high Kindling to the pot or you will watch the progress bar for a long time. Each cake stacks to 9,999 and weighs 1, and — importantly — cake does not spoil inside the Breeding Farm's chest, so you can stockpile it. (It also works as emergency food at 656 nutrition, but that is an expensive lunch.)

Ingredient Farm Setup: One of Each Ranch Pal

The flour and berries come from plantations, but milk, egg, and honey are all passive Ranch drops. A minimum self-sufficient cake farm is:

  • 1 Mozzarina at a Ranch → Milk. One ranch Mozzarina comfortably outpaces a single pot, so milk is rarely the bottleneck.
  • 1 Chikipi at a Ranch → Egg. Eggs are the fastest Ranch drop; you will drown in them.
  • 1 Beegarde at a Ranch → Honey. Honey is usually the bottleneck — only 2 per cake sounds small, but Beegarde drops are slow. Ranch a second Beegarde before your first long breeding session.
  • Wheat + Berry Plantations with Planting, Watering, Gathering, and Transporting coverage so harvested crops actually reach the Mill and the Cooler Box.
  • Cooler Box near the pot — store Flour, Berries, Milk, Egg, and Honey there so the cook can pull continuously.

You need roughly player level 15 (Wheat Plantation + Mill) before mass production is practical. Before that, buy the odd cake from a merchant at 6,300 gold if you must — it is a terrible deal, but it unblocks an early Anubis.

Which Cake to Use: All 5 Types in 1.0

Version 1.0 added four new cakes on top of the classic — see the Palworld Wiki 1.0 breeding mechanics overview for each effect. Pick by goal, not by habit:

  • Cake — no bonus. The default for ordinary shortest-known-path chains (≤4 steps). Bake this unless you have a reason not to.
  • Vegetable Cake — community reports suggest each cake may produce two eggs instead of one, which would roughly halve the cake bill for long chains. This is unconfirmed: until a trigger rate is verified, do not budget it at 100%. Site figures show it only as a conditional conversion (if 2 eggs/cake applies) — treat it as reference, not a guarantee. Verify in your build and still bake extra for retries.
  • Mushroom Cake — community and wiki sources describe a slightly higher chance of better hidden stats on the child, but no verified magnitude. Use it for the final egg of a keeper if you want to try it, not for every step of the chain; treat the effect as unquantified until verified in your build.
  • Extravagant Vegetable Cake — boosts mutation chance and hidden-stat quality. Use it only when you are deliberately hunting mutations (see the breeding guide).
  • Special Cake — community and wiki sources describe a higher chance of passing down the parents' passive skills, but no verified magnitude. Do not assume it guarantees a 4-passive keeper — treat the bonus as unquantified and plan for repeated attempts with the Passive Planner.

Rule of thumb: Vegetable Cake for the chain (if your build matches the double-egg report), Mushroom or Special Cake for the final keeper egg, Extravagant only for mutation hunts. Treat every calculator cake number as a minimum.

Using Cake at the Farm

Assign one male and one female Pal to the Breeding Farm (tier-19 Ancient Technology), then place cake into the chest attached to the farm — not a regular storage box — as shown in the Palworld Wiki Breeding Farm usage guide. The pair produces an egg roughly every 5 minutes at default work speed and consumes cake as they go; breeding does not drain their SAN. Top up the chest before long AFK sessions, and keep an Egg Incubator free — eggs do not hatch in the chest. Full mechanics are in the Breeding Guide.

How Many Cakes to Budget

Plan one cake per breeding step as a theoretical minimum (Vegetable Cake shown only as a conditional conversion — if 2 eggs/cake applies — not a guaranteed halving). A 4-step shortest known path to a Legendary is at least 4 cakes for the chain — this excludes gender retries, passive stacking, mutation hunts, and incubation time. Before starting a project, check the target's How to Breed page, count the steps, and bake 2× that number. Running out of cake mid-chain with a full farm is the classic beginner stall.

Quick Checklist

  • Breeding Farm built (tier 19, 2 ancient tech points)
  • Male + Female assigned to the farm
  • Cake in the farm chest — Vegetable Cake for chains, Special/Mushroom for the keeper egg
  • Ranch pipeline running: Mozzarina + Chikipi + Beegarde (double the Beegarde)
  • Egg Incubator free, with heaters/coolers matched to the egg's element
